Feb Flashback

I’m back! Been away from my dearest blog so long I almost failed to notice that my February archive was empty.

Yep, it’s empty alright but the month is anything but. A lot of things happened and I just didn’t have the time and patience to sit down and write about them. The first three days of the month saw me and my wife packing our bags for Baguio. Too bad we missed the mercury hitting 6 degrees centigrade. When we came out it was between 12-14 degrees but I’ll take that anytime to Manila’s stifling 30s at high noon.

For the record, I’ve never been to Baguio(What?!) before last month’s trip. I’m not big on travel and most of the traveling I did was thru books, the World Wide Web and a little bit of imagination. Somehow, the idea of going to a mountain city sitting one and a half kilometers above sea level seemed appealing to me since I have leftover VLs left to use.

And use them I did. Here’s some pictures of the three days we spent there.

It was all good and sweet till the last day, when my Ericsson K800i got stolen somewhere in the Baguio Public Market. We were busy buying all the “pasalubongs” and I only noticed my phone missing when we were already back at the hotel. The person who did that could have butter for fingers for his hands slid in and out of my pocket without alerting me the slightest. Awesome.

When my wife used her tracker, we found out that the phone was on the 2nd floor of the public market but only God knows which hooligan has it. With the sheer number of people in that place, it’s impossible to know who’s got the goodies. Even if we find out that person, it’s a long shot he’ll hand it back to us. I deemed it pointless to return and risk our lives in the process. A phone can be replaced anytime. Still, I was thinking of calling Ericsson to have the phone locked but I thought why bother? They can unlock it anyway. As the Victory Liner Bus started pulling away from the terminal. I let slip from my lips a silent oath to whoever got my phone, and with it, a vow to return someday. Mr thief, I’d like you to know that I will summon lightning to strike and burn your hands to fiery crisp that you may not steal again. Or that maggots will devour you alive like Herod Antipas, or that the 10 plagues of Egypt will pay you a happy visit one of these days.

Yep. That’s how bad I felt.

I’m usually attached to small personal things like cellphones. It’s a good thing the fun time we had there somehow cushioned the blow. Hey, Citibank, can I stop paying for something I don’t have anymore? Ouch.

Anyways, the cellphone incident aside, We’re definitely planning to return to Baguio maybe later this year. I never thought I’d fall in love with the “Ukay Ukay” the way I did. I enjoyed our late dinner @ Café by the Ruins but above all, I love the fact that taxis there give you the exact change and they don’t rig their meters like they do here in Manila. They’re not as picky and grumpy as the ones we have here as well.

Must…come…back…(altogether now) must…come…back.
